I (well we) finally did it, got the majority of school and sport equipment shopping done!

With nine day’s to school, we will only add a few more items as time permits, hopefully some deals on clothes :)

Mr. H got a great pair of red cleats, he absolutely loves them and the only team member with colored cleats, so he will always stand out.

Diva H, will be sporting her Danskin leather sneakers with interchangeable color buttons while cheering the Bulldogs to GO!

We couldn’t forget our hero Henry, who made off with Spiderman sneakers that light when he walks, they must be a good seller, for these shoe types still being manufactured.

Coincidentally my classes start on the same day, so aside from a laptop and bag, I am ready!

Apples = Apple juice + Applesauce

Makes for a naturally sweetened treat.

Through the very kind people at Waring Pro that allowed me to test their Juicerator, and to our landlords that planted an apple tree, yesterday we tried our hand at making our own apple juice and sauce, and best of all we did not add any thing to the already naturally sweet treats. The kids of course could not get enough of the apple sauce and it took all my will power not to finish the juice, but I am looking forward to picking some more apples next week and enjoying this sweet treat.

My son the artist

Some of my early memories of school take me back to my love of art, and in raising my kids, I try hard not to push them in any direction, but when Mr. H showed a continued interest in drawing, I let him go it at his own pace. Now while one term of art does not make an art connesiuer, as his Mom, I am very proud and have agreed (after constant nagging) to create his own category that will hold all his drawings.

Today’s picture reflects his feelings so far about football, of course he’s # g1, and you can make out Diva H with her pom-poms, and the rest of us in the stands (in color of course).

From the mouths of babes

No not my kids, but one of the little girls my daughter was playing with at my son’s football practice.

As you may have noticed I have a “mixed” family, African American and Caucasian, so while we see mixed couples in much larger numbers than when we first got together, the reactions to our relationship are continually eye opening.

Having lived in mostly larger towns (Washington DC and Tampa) people are often too busy too care or take it for what it is - our choice.

To my amusement a 7-year old playing with my daughter asked me why I was married to a white man. Now I don’t believe she nor her parents her racist, and can understand the curiosity surrounding our family life.

I have always been comfortable with who I am and who I choose to spend my life with, and know there will always be silly reactions to me or my family life, I take it with a grain of salt and chalk it up to a bad hair day or cramps.

What a week it has been!

The kid’s had a full week of practices and loved every minute of it and already have team and squad photos on the 27th! My premed classes start on the 25th, but I am hoping I will home in time to drop them off.

I picked up what wasn’t sold at the consignment sale and was a bit disappointed as I had really priced those items to go, but understand that times are just hard for so many, but look forward to blessing a few with what was not sold to two of my local food banks that offer clothes and other miscellaneous items to families in need.
